Setting goals in life is important! Have you ever felt like you’re not getting anywhere in life? Have you ever felt complacent and like nothing exciting is happening to you? I have learned the secret to making life more exciting, and that is setting intentions, aka goals, for your life! Keep reading to learn why goal-setting is so important and how you can implement them, too!
I read something along the lines of, “Only 5% of people actually write out their life goals, and these are among the most successful and happiest people on the planet.” This got me thinking, why haven’t we been taught to write out goals for our own life? If goal-setting is so important, then why has it not been taught in school? I was never told to set-goals in high school, college, or in my corporate job.
Setting goals for your life is important because it gives you purpose, something to strive for, and makes you feel more motivated, as compared to someone who has no life goals and wants to achieve nothing. It gives you something to be excited about, and makes you want to work harder for the things you want to see come into your life. Goal-setting paves the way for where you want your life to go, versus wondering aimlessly throughout life. You are happening to the world, not the world happening to you. Long story short, it lets you bring more amazing things into your own life!
There are a few approaches for writing out goals, and I want to share with you ways you can implement this habit into your daily life. You can journal goals out, write them in a daily planner, write them on your mirror with a whiteboard market, and so much more. You can write short-term and long-term goals, big or small. Whatever way resonates with you, make it a daily habit!
Journaling Goals- You can write your goals out in a journal each day. You can write them out as if they’ve already happened, so that you are imagining and feeling what it’s like to see them come true. An example of this would be “I am the CEO of my company. I am happily married with two children and two dogs. We have a vacation home in Hawaii. Etc…”
Bullet Points in Daily Planner- A lot of planners have extra pages with space for each day. This is how I personally write my goals out each and every day. I write out 5-7 goals in bullet points, mixing in short-term and long-term goals. I write them in present-tense like they have already happened. For example: *I am serving 1 million women *We are debt free. *I own a house. Etc.
Goals on Mirror– One of my clients showed me this approach and I just love it! Each morning when she is getting ready, she writes out her goals on her bathroom mirror using a whiteboard marker. She then reads over the goals as she’s getting ready and starts her day off with a clear vision of what she wants out of life!
There is no right or wrong way to write out goals. The main focus is that you are setting intentions for your life and actively thinking about what you want to accomplish. Whatever way you feel helps you the most, do it, and do it daily!
I just want to share with you all how goal setting has changed my own life so you can understand why I urge you to do it, too!
In December of 2016, I read Grant Cardone’s 10X Rule and was mind-blown! January 1st, 2017 I wrote out my first set of goals, which consisted of random things like “Compete in a bikini competition” (this TERRIFIED me!) “Get in a magazine” (something I always wanted to accomplish.) And “Make $2000 a month” (I was a new business and this was a struggle.)
The months were going by and I continued to write out these daily goals. I never missed a day. My income started increasing little by little. Finally July comes and we got into a car accident; I have this epiphany that life is short and got fired up. The next month I started bikini prep, something that I NEVER would have thought I would do. I hired a coach and prepped from August 2017 to November 2017. During this prep, amazing things started happening! In October, I went to the Fitposium Conference and I got selected to be in a two page magazine spread in Scottsdale Health Magazine! As the days got closer to the bikini competition in November, I decided that I would compete in two shows two weekends in a row, because why not!? My first bikini competition comes and I actually won 3rd place! I didn’t even set the goal of placing in the show, let alone getting top 5. It was incredible and I felt like I was on a high, all because I set the intentions of where I wanted my life to go.
As you can see, this all started happening the year that I began writing my goals out! Since 2017, I have continued to write my goals out every single day! More amazing things have happened from my goals list- like training out of an amazing gym, moving into the apartment of my dreams in Scottsdale, launching this beautiful website, and traveling around Europe! I truly don’t think any of this would be possible if I hadn’t set the intention of where I want my life to go! Obviously some goals have not happened yet or how I wanted, but I’ve learned that it ALWAYS works out!!
I am obsessed with self-development and there are certain books that have truly changed my life over the years. Just wanted to share them so you can read and change your life, too!
I hope this all makes sense and is making you excited for your own goals in life! If you have any questions please feel free to comment below! Or if you already set goals, I’d love to hear what they are and what has come true for you!
Thanks for reading!
